Nine months and counting Spanish Lake continues to commit Medical Neglect to 16-year-old Keenan Robinson.
A few employees of a MO Division of Youth Services at Spanish Lake avoids and deprives Keenan Robinson from getting corrective surgery for a hand injury that occurred in December of 2010.
In February of 2011 while in St Charles, MO Detention Center Keenan’s father and detention staff were highly concerned of the swelling in his right hand which led to Keenan’s immediate visit to Mercy Hospital for x-ray’s. The x-ray results showed that he has a fractured hand.
Mercy Hospital recommended an immediate consultation with an orthopedic specialist. This never occurred because Keenan then entered a program at Spanish Lake where a nurse, general doctor, facility manager in charge Chad Davenport have all been avoiding this serious matter, depriving him from corrective surgery. Chad Davenport stated to Keenan’s father several months ago that no judge will allow Keenan to receive surgery.
Keenan’s father called the facility and nurse a few times a week about the fracture where Spanish Lake continuously and purposely avoids the situation. The nurse told Keenan’s father their general doctor examined him and stated his hand has healed just fine. Keenan’s father questioned her about what kind of doctor is he and if he was an orthopedic specialist. Her answer was no!
Finally on April 11, 2011 Keenan was finally brought to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center and examined by Mary E Rashid MD, whom recommended that the patient be cleared for return to activities with the understanding that he would benefit from surgical correction of the malunion.
On May 16, 2011 Keenan’s father had scheduled a consultation with Doctor Rashid for surgery and did attend. Keenan was absent. Keenan’s father informed Spanish Lake of the appointment two weeks and weekly in advance. Spanish Lake ignored and rejected the pre-surgery consultation.
For more than seven months Spanish Lake deprives Keenan of surgical correction to his right hand. His right index knuckle disfigured, gimp hand, and is offset about an inch. His right index finger hangs from his offset knuckle and shakes like putty and his finger is now shorter. The youth is right-handed and does not have full range of motion and strength. The joint lacks 10-15 degrees of extension and is unable to make a fist. He claims it is still tender and painful.
The fracture now needs reset, re-broken to correct, which seems barbaric to any parent and patient, due to deliberate medical neglect by MO Division of Youth Services at Spanish Lake.
Medical Neglect : The denial or deprivation, by those responsible for the care, custody, and control of the child, of medical or surgical treatment or intervention which is necessary to remedy or ameliorate a medical condition which is life threatening or causes injury. Medical Neglect includes not only serious, but mild and moderate medical neglect as well.
