JUST THE GRANDFATHER

They told me I’m “just the grandfather.”
Not a parent.
Not important.
Not needed.
Not worthy of a say.
But I’m the one who held those babies when they were born.
I’m the one who fed them, rocked them, made them laugh.
I’m the one who passed every inspection, every background check, every hoop they set on fire.
I’m the one they approved — and then rejected anyway.
Because they couldn’t control me.
They said my home wasn’t good enough.
They said my voice didn’t matter.
They said I needed to sit down and shut up.
But I won’t.
Not when my granddaughters are being traumatized, smeared, and used like pawns.
I am not just the grandfather.
I am their protector.
Their voice.
Their family.
Their safe place.
And as long as I breathe,
I will not be silent.
I will not be polite.
I will not back down.
Not until they’re home.
Not until this system is exposed.
Not until justice has a name — and it ain’t Calero, Montzingo, or Miller.
It’s Grandpa.
