SAN DIEGO TRASHCAN SCAM

THE TRASHCAN SCAM: SAN DIEGO’S WAR ON THE ELDERLY

PUBLIC NOTICE

You may want to go to this… This is from a good friend of mine. Please make it a priority to attend the meeting at Adobe Bluffs Park On Thursday August 7 @6pm.

It is imperative that we gather large crowds to push back against the trash can scam. This is the city council’s first test to see how compliant people will be, and then they’ll tighten the screws.

We MUST PUSH BACK immediately! Please let me know if you will be attending this meeting. You can respond by replying to this email or texting me. Also please feel free to share this information far and wide. Thanks!!

You can park on Gainsborough Ave or Sparren.

San Diego calls it progress. We call it what it is: a trash collection scam targeting working families, low-income households, and the elderly.

For over a century, residents of San Diego had free trash pickup thanks to the People’s Ordinance of 1919. That changed with Measure B in 2022. Voters were told it would be fair, modern, and affordable. What they got instead was another bloated billing system disguised as a service.

Now, even if you don’t want city trash pickup—even if you barely produce any waste at all—you are forced to accept it. You get the bins whether you use them or not. You get the monthly bill, regardless of your income. And if you don’t pay? San Diego will tack the charge onto your property taxes, with penalties. Don’t pay long enough? That “trash fee” turns into a lien. And yes, that lien can eventually lead to foreclosure.

This hits hardest on the people least able to fight it: the elderly. Seniors living on fixed incomes, Social Security, or disability are now being forced to pay for a service they don’t need, can’t afford, and never agreed to. People who take their own trash to the dump or barely fill a single bag a week are being charged like they run a landfill.

There’s no opt-out. No waiver. No vote on a case-by-case basis. Just a bill. Just a penalty. Just another quiet punishment for trying to live simply.

They won’t kill you. But they will threaten your home. They will bury you in fees. They will choke fixed-income elders with a smile and call it modernization.

This isn’t sanitation. It’s extortion by the bag.

If you’re one of the many being crushed by this garbage cartel, speak up. There are meetings forming. Organizers are building. And this page is here to connect you.

No one should have to choose between food and a trash fee. No elder should live under the threat of losing their home because the city forced them to accept a bin they never needed.

San Diego, stop attacking the people who built this city. Roll back the trashcan scam.
